Description
Chiran is the name of a town in Kagoshima prefecture in the southern island of Kyushu. Chiran's climate is warm and humid, with thick mists that contribute to this tea's flavor. The soil in this area is unique because it is made of volcanic ash from an active volcano, Sakurajima. This provides a high mineral content and excellent drainage to the soil, making it particularly good for growing tea.
Den's Fukamushi Sencha Chiran is also unique because it's made of a special cultivar, Asatsuyu. Asatsuyu is often described as being, "like gyokuro", even though it is sencha. It brews up a beautiful, deep green color that is reminiscent of jade.
