A piece of tea ware from esteemed potter Tokuta Fujita. Like his other work, our custom made Fujita Hakudo Kyusu, Fujita-san delivers another stunning piece for the avid tea enjoyer.
This unique Tokoname-yaki teapot is entirely handmade and boasts a truly beautiful form. It has an excellent overall balance, making it look elegant from any angle. It is crafted from dark gray clay, and features a distinctive lustrous surface finish which is the result of a technique known as "shell-firing”. The ceramic sasame filter that is built into the teapot is ideal for naturally straining tea, and some tea enjoyers prefer this over a metal mesh. Its wide shape allows for quick pouring and reduces clogging.
As for the name, ochakai is a Japanese way of referring to an informal tea gathering. Coming in at roughly 320 ml, this kyusu is great for serving 2-3 people. So, let's gather around and enjoy some good tea with this kyusu.

This kyusu was produced by Fujita Tokuta, a renowned contemporary potter who has been practicing his craft in Tokoname at least since 1994. In 1997, he began apprenticing under Toshio Araki and, since then, has won awards and exhibited at the Nitten Exhibition, Japan Ceramic Exhibition, and Japan Contemporary Industrial Art Exhibition. Tokoname is one of the Six Old Kilns of Japan and has been a pottery center since the 12th century. It is especially famous for its unglazed pottery.
